I remember hating my piano lessons as a kid
Practice felt like a chore. Repeating drills and pieces I didn’t like as my mind wandered off to think about anything else. Mum shouting at me to “get on with it”.
I remember plucking up some courage to ask my teacher if we could learn something I wanted to play…
“Later.” He said. “First we do scales, then more scales”
He didn’t whack my knuckles with a ruler, but the look on his face said he probably wished that was still allowed.
Anyhow, years later (after picking up the guitar and discovering musical freedom for the first time) I came back to the piano.
